SARDA - SA Riding for the Disabled

Over the past few years the Vodacom Durban July has held SARDA as their title charity for the event. Each year SARDA receives a R40 000 donation from Africa's Greatest Horseracing event as a show of support for their continued efforts for the great work that they do.

SARDA is a non-profit organisation which provides specialised horse riding classes to mentally and physically handicapped children of varied degrees. These classes are provided to children up to the age of sixteen years at no cost.

The classes are handled by head instructor Tracey Cummings and her fellow trainee instructors five mornings a week at the Ridge Top Stables in Shongweni.

The specialised treatment horse riding lessons have proven to show tremendous results in children - the success stories are endless.

Many children arrive at SARDA with high hopes after being told they would never be able to walk. The movement of being on top of a horse helps the children relax and de-stress as well as develop their muscles without the strain of gravity on their little bodies.

In 2010, thanks in part to the support from the Vodacom Durban July, the SARDA KZN premises proudly opened its fully undercover training arena!
